Clarinet ATM application

Presentation

The Clarinet-system is a powerful Protocol Test platform supporting ATM interfaces and protocols. It offers a wide variety of functions:
  • Monitoring
  • Automatic simulation
  • Conformance testing for different layers of protocols based on ATM-forum or ETSI test suites

Interface connection

Physical connection

  • 2 x STS-3c/STM1 optical connections MMF or SMF
  • 2 x E3 connections

Connection mode

  • Serial monitoring
  • Parallel monitoring with external splitter on STS-3c/STM1
  • Simulation with monitoring

Analysis Functions

Interface management

  • Acquisition modes:
    • Cells mode: one event per Cell
    • PDU mode:
      • Automatic Reassembly function
      • One event for each CPCS-PDU.

Protocol event generation

  • Both directions
  • Time stamping: 0.1 microsecond
  • Cells filtering:
    • ATM cells
    • Idle cells

·  Statistics event generation

  • Sampling at a user specified value (in sec)

  • Counters by PDUs type

  • Data-flow counters on data (Frame-Relay..)

Protocol specification for display

Protocol stack with 7 decoding levels:
  • Cells / CPCS-PDU header
  • Protocol stack with 7 decoding levels:
    • SSCOP, Q2931, Q2971, UNI3.1, PNNI,
    • MPOA, LANE, CL-IP,
    • IP, TCP...

Signaling Simulation

Q2931 call simulation:

Behavior:  Generator (1 to 50 outgoing SETUP’s) and/or responder (acceptance, 50 incoming SETUP’s).
  • Independent outgoing communications defined by:
    • Delays and IE buffer for SETUP, INFOS, RELEASE.
    • Number of repetitions and inter-communications delay.
  • Identical incoming communications defined by:
    • ACCEPT/REJECT behavior.
    • Transmission option and IE buffer for SETUPACK, CALL-PROC, RELEASE.
    • Delay before CONNECT.
  • Manual commands: CALL, CLEAR, INFO, RESTART, etc..., DTMF values, abcd.
  • Outgoing communications triggered by:
    • Starting delay.
    • Manual commands.

Emulation Functions

Cells layer

Selection of interface type:

  • NNI
  • UNI

ATM layer

Automatic Segmentation/Reassembly function:

  • AAL 1
  • AAL 3/4
  • AAL 5

SSCOP Layer

  • ITU-Q2930 (UNI), ITU-Q2940 (NNI)
  • Emulator configuration: Time-limits and parameters.

UNI Layer:

  • ITU-Q2931, ITU-Q2971 (Multipoint)
  • Network or User side.
  • Time-limits and parameters.

Programmable Simulation

API

  • Use of CLARINET-Development C language
  • Microsoft format library.
  • Level N simulation using emulation on signalling channel.

Conformance Testing Simulation

ETS

  • Use of ETS packages resulting from TTCN compilation:
    • UNI 3.1 Network side
    • SSCOP
    • Frame-Relay over ATM
  • Template of profiles, PICS/PIXIT
  • Execution under Clarinet Run-time

ETS

  • The Clarinet  TTCN compiler and the stack of emulators allow the users to develop or customize new ETS.
