Clarinet SS7 Application

Presentation

The Clarinet-system is a powerful Protocol Test platform supporting SS7 interfaces and protocols. It offers a wide variety of functions covering ITU or ETSI Standards:
  • Monitoring
  • Automatic simulation
  • Conformance testing for different layers of protocols

Interface Connection

Interface Under Test

  • From 1 to 7 Clarinet Books units managed simultaneously
  • Support of 1 switchable interface per unit:
    • E1 75 or 120 Ohms
    • T1 75 or 100 Ohms

Operating Interfaces

  • Transdata
  • Handset
  • Transit

Analysis Functions

Interface Management

  • Management on each interface of two types of  links:
    • PH-physical link: E1 or T1 with configuration options.
    • SS7 Signaling link: definition of  2 SS7 signaling channels  for each T1 or E1 interface,

Protocol Event Generation

  • Time-stamping at 0.1ms
  • Physical level: TS0-G703, T1 Alarms, clock slip
  • SS7 Signaling links:  BOP events,  SS7 events (frames counts)
  • DTMF code.

Statistics Event Generation

  • Sampling at a user specified value (in sec)
  • BOP type event counters on SS7
  • counters by PDUs type on MTP, ISUP, TUP
  • data-flow counters

Protocol Specification for Display

  • SS7 Signaling  Links (protocol stack with 7 decoding levels):
    • BOP envelope, frame counts (FISU)
    • SS7 layers decoding:
      • MTP2/MTP3: ITU Q781/Q782
      • SNNP, SNTM, SCCP
      • TUP, TUP+, SSUTR2
      • ISUP: ITU Q784
      • TCAP
      • INAP-CS1
    • Full ASN1 decoding of  ISUP, SCCP, TCAP, INAP
  • Event-Editor functions for events formatting and  filtering

Built-in ISUP Simulation Functions

Interface Management

  • Simultaneous management on each interface of  2 types of  links:
    • PH-physical interface: E1 or T1 selection.
    • SS7 Signaling link: definition of  1 signaling channel (T1 or E1) for SS7 protocol,

Simulation Features

  • Establishment of communications:
    • Generator and/or responder behavior
    • From 1 to 100  communications
  • SS7 emulation parameters:
    • Signaling Point emulation
    • Protocols: ITU/ANSI

ISUP Automatic Simulation Behavior:

  • Generator Configuration: from 1 to 50 independent outgoing communications defined by:
    • Delays and buffers for Initial Address, Subsequent Address Messages
    • Number of repetitions and delays between communications.
  • Responder configuration:  Identical incoming calls defined by:
    • ACCEPT/REJECT behavior.
    • transmission option for : Address Complete, Answer, Call Progress, Connect, Release, Release Complete Messages.
    • From 1 to 100  communications
    • Delay before Response.
  • All messages saved in a buffer defined by a user-friendly editor allowing to enter Mandatory Fixed Part, Mandatory Variable Part, Optional Part
  • Manual commands for communications (IAM, SAM), Circuits (Blocking, Unblocking...) and Circuits group (Blocking, Unblocking...)
  • Outgoing communications triggered by:
    • Starting delay.
    • Manual commands.

Emulation Functions

Physical Layer

  • Emulation mode: Signaling Point.

MTP2 Layer:

  • Setting of Parameters (time-limits, length)

MTP3 layer:

  • Setting of Parameters (numbering...)

SCCP layer:

  • Setting of Parameters ( numbering...)

ISUP layer

  •  Circuit configuration
  •  Setting of Parameters (time-limits ..)

Programmable Simulation

API

  • Use of CLARINET-Development C language
  • Microsoft format library.
  • Level N simulation using N-1 emulation on SS7 channel.
  • Samples of Simulation User Programs:
    • OverISUP
    • OverMTP2

Conformance Testing Simulation

ETS

  • A set of Executable Test Suites packages resulting from compilation of standard ATS, has been developed by Acacia.
  • template of profiles, PICS/PIXIT
  • execution under Clarinet Run-time

ATS

  • The Clarinet  TTCN compiler and the stack of emulators allow the users to develop or customize new ETS.
