Clarinet Analog measurement: PESQ

The Clarinet Run-time package includes a tool allowing to measure the Quality of the voice carried over Trunk bearers or over IP networks.

Functions of the program

The Clarinet Event-Editor includes a filtering function accessible through a displayed selection :

  • the string is selected by the cursor highlighting
  • the right button of the mouse provides access to the "string filter"  function

Definition of the measurement

The PESQ measurement uses basically transmission of wav files but some specific features have been added to increase the accuracy and provide an easier way to use it..

The Generator panel includes directly the Active source "PESQ" allowing to send a wav-file of reference.

A "trailing delay" should be added at the end of transmission to avoid loosing the last packets

The Responder panel includes also directly the Active source "PESQ" allowing to send a wav-file of reference

A "trailing delay" should be added at the end of transmission to avoid loosing the last packets

The reference wav file is selected from  the "transmit file" list. For using as a reference file for PESQ, the 16 bits encoding is mandatory), the synchronization at the beginning is systematically inserted.
The filter defines the way the generate the PESQ results:
  • Auto: select automatically the voice samples in each communication (H323, ISDN, SS7, QSIG..) .
  • Syncro must be selected to detect the beginning of the reference file.
The PESQ measurement generates events:
  • at the beginning of the reference file,  the synchronization voice pattern is detected independently of the voice path (RTP or TDM samples)
  • at the end of the reference file, the final MOS value is defined and inserted in the event "average result" The duration of the file is also added to that event
