Adaptec SlimSCSI APA-1460A

Problem identification

A bug in the drivers delivered on the 4.01A/4.01B Adaptec-EZSCSI software version for the APA1460A have been identified by Acacia and reported to Adaptec. The Clarinet software can't be launched.

Solution

The drivers are directly provided by Windows 95 for APA 1460. So when the installation software requires the diskette the customer has to cancel this instruction. But he has to use the manual installation from the Windows95 standard drivers and to select Adaptec APA 1460.

Typical email answer

Here is a copy of the reply made by Adaptec to our problem with EZ-SCSI 4.01:

>Hello from Adaptec,
> We have seen this error message using a ThinkPad with a 1460 when it
>resumes from a shut down. The solution in that case is to restore the
>original WINASPI.DLL, WNASPI32.DLL and APIX.VXD files by renaming the
>WINASPI.BAK, WNASPI32.BAK and APIX.BAK files. There is also an
>ASPIENUM.VXD
>file that can be removed if the problem continues.

Acacia suggestion

Maybe, Acacia suggest another way:

  1. Unplug your SCSI card
  2. Uninstall EZ-SCSI (control panel - Add/Remove programs - EZ-SCSI)
  3. Plug your SCSI card
  4. When Windows95 tells you that it detected a new hardware, choose:
  • "Select from other driver list" (this is translated from french version, so the english menu item may be slightly different)
  • "Manufacturer : Adaptec"
  • "Driver : APA 1460 or SlimSCSI"
