Event-Editor - decoding protocol events

The Event-Editor applies a filter on the events allowing to:
  • decode the information field according to layers of protocols specified in a stack of protocols
  • format  the type of messages according to display options

If there is no associated filter applied, all the events of the event file are displayed by the EVENT-EDITOR in a basic form without any protocol interpretation.

If an associated filter is applied, event decoding is carried out by translating binary event fields into strings of ASCII characters according to the protocol specifications in the filter. All the possible strings depend on the national language chosen at the software installation.

For a frame type event of the SL or DL links (BOP event as an exemple), a protocol stack can be defined in the associated filter and then one or several lines are displayed to present the decoding levels (D1 up to D7).
The information field of the frame is splitted into lines of decoding (D1,D2..Dn.) corresponding to

  • <ctrl field> PDU layer 1
  • <ctrl field> PDU layer 2
  • ........
  • <ctrl field><data field> PDU layer n
The specific string <...> is displayed at the end of the data field if it has been partially recorded according to :
    • the specifications of the filter (Record event mode).
    • the specifications of the profile (Data link analysis mode).
