How to simulate V5.2 multi-links over E1 interfaces

The V5.2 protocol specifies capability to use from 1 to 16 E1 links. The management of the links is included in the standard: ETSI ETS300 347-1

The purpose of the document is to bring information about the options supported by the Clarinet simulation.

E1 interfaces

The profile resulting from the wizard selection should have the following specifications:
  • Interface Type= V5x.
  • Emulation mode = AN or LE.
  • V5 interface Type= V5.2

Clarinet profile allows to manage a V5.2 interface corresponding to a group of Clarinet:

  • open the profile
  • select the TAB "Clarinet 1"
  • By holding the SHIFT or CTRL key pressed, click on the Clarinet numbers (each of them corresponding to an E1 interface) in the Interface(s) box
  • the tab indication "Clarinet 1" is replaced by "Multi-Clarinet"

The 'Multi-clarinet" allows to configure globally the group of E1 interfaces.

Configuration of the Links

Each E1 interface corresponds to a V5.2 LINK. The set of E1 links is displayed and configured by accessing to Interface SpecsèLink :

èLink ID . A link ID is allocated to each of them.

èOptions CRC4 multi-frame is normally used over V5 (selected by default )

èInterface Specs : to specify the E1 clock source...

Configuration of the C-Channels

The set of C-Channel is displayed and configured by accessing to Interface SpecsèC-Channels :

The number of physical C-channels is specified by entering the value in the field "Number of physical C-Channels" of the panel.
Each E1 interface of Clarinet supports up to 2 physical C channels. The maximum number allowed depends on the number of clarinet selected to define the Multi-Clarinet set.

The panel is automatically updated (depending on the number of C-channel) to display the list of the physical C-Channels as specified in the standard (all the TS16's and then all the TS15's).

The column Physical display the strings Ci, TSj where Ci is the Clarinet number and TSj is the TS number.

The column Logical displays the logical C-channels specified by the value ID= . If no value is specified, the C-channel display (standby) state. If a value is specified, it is in ACTIVE state

The column C-path displays the c-paths allocated to the c-channels. The allocation of isdn and pstn c-path is defined by clicking to Edit

V5.2 standard and Clarinet features

The V5.2 standard includes the following definitions:

  • Primary Link: the 2048 kbits/s Link in a multi-link V5.2 interface whose physical C-channel in TS 16 carries a C-path for the protection protocol and on V5.2 initialization, also the C-path for the control protocol, link control protocol, and the BCC protocol. Other C-paths may also be carried in the same TS16
  • Secondary Link: the 2048 kbits/s Link in a multi-link V5.2 interface whose physical C-channel in TS 16 carries a C-path for the protection protocol and on V5.2 initialization, acts as the standby C-channel for the control protocol, link control protocol, and the BCC protocol.

The C-paths are allocated to the logical C-channel. The allocation of the C-path complies with the specifications of ETS300347-1 paragraph 18 and figure 25.

Resulting from application of the V5.2 standard are the definition of following features for Clarinet:

  • Primary Link: the E1 interface of the first Clarinet defined in the 'Multi-Clarinet' set
  • Secondary Link: the E1 interface of the second Clarinet defined in the 'Multi-Clarinet' set
  • Group 1: TS16 of Primary +Secondary Links
  • Group 2: all other TS's.
  • Protection protocol: Carried in TS16 of Primary Link and TS16 of Secondary Link.
  • control protocol, link control protocol, and the BCC protocol: at the initialization carried in TS16 of Primary Link.
  • PSTN or ISDN C-paths: they can be initialized in any logical C-channel either in Group 1 or Group 2.
