IP profile editor: Initialize PPP emulator

Synchronous mode

  • No. PPP uses asynchronous mode (HDLC-like frame over V120).
  • Yes. PPP uses synchronous mode (HDLC frame, AAL5 over ADSL).

Initial Frame Check Sequence. FCS type of the PPP frames to be received at first during the negotiation of LCP Configuration options, and further. Replaced by Frame Check Sequence, if negotiated, during the Authentication and Network-Layer Protocol phases.

  • Null. No FCS added.
  • CCITT 16-bit (default). 16 bits FCS 
  • CCITT 32-bit. 32 bits FCS.
  • Counters and Timers

    • Restart Counter: max configure. Indicates the number of Configure-Request packets sent without receiving a Configure-Ack, Configure Nack or Configure-Reject packet before assuming that the peer is unable to respond. Typical value is 10.
    • Restart Counter: max terminate. Indicates the number of  Terminate-Request packets sent without receiving a Terminate-Ack packet before assuming that the peer is unable to respond. Typical value is 2.
    • Restart Timers. Timer used for transmission of Configure-request or Terminate-Request packets. Typical value is 3 sec.

    Protocol options

    • AUTH. Access to editing the Authentication configuration options.
    • LCP. Access to editing the Link Control configuration options.
    • NCP. Access to editing the IP Control configuration options (addresses, compression).
